The iPhone 7 actually is a decent audio recorder but many people are puzzled at how to connect an external microphone to this device. In this video I’ll show you how you can use your existing 3.5mm microphones on the iPhone 7 kinda like I did on older iPhones. Obviously, the iPhone 7 does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack on it.
We will need a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter. iPhone 7’s came with this but if you lost yours , you’ll need an aftermarket one. We’ll also need this other adapter which is a splitter for headphone and microphone signals. The good thing is that this is a very inexpensive cable. On one end it has female ports for microphone and headphone plugs. The other end has a special 3.5mm plug on it. The signal is being recorded by the phone and this is really the only way you can connect an external 3.5mm microphone to iPhones without a headphone jack.
It is a bit annoying to have to carry around a couple of adapter cables in addition to a microphone but this works! These adapters don’t cost much but they are easy to lose. But the good thing is that you can still use your old microphones on the iPhone!
